Short story: Work really really hard at stuff you love and good things will happen. I’ve been doing it all my life.
I’m one of those lucky people that gets to do what they love every day – twenty+ years professionally, umpteen years if you count back to seventh grade yearbook. And even better, I get to do it with a group of people that make work fun, interesting, challenging, and new – my team at INK and my tech, clean energy and corporate clients around the world.
I’ve worked on brands big and small at firms big and small (find more specifics here) and have found across those experiences that two things ring true – the first is that good stories, told consistently and well, make everyone (clients, reporters, consumers, me) happy. The other? We must keep learning, evolving, trying new things (good examples here), and balance that with not throwing the baby (aka those tried and true communications tactics) out with the bath water.
A few things I’m proud of: adding to my journalism degree from the University of Texas with my Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). It’s a bit like an accountant earning her CPA. I was honored to be inducted into the PR News 2017 Top Women of PR group, and chosen as a finalist for the PR News Agency Person of the Year award in 2010. And personal accolades are great, but nothing compares to the team awards we’ve won, including 10 (and counting) Best Places to Work honors.
Some of my favorite things in life include sunshine, ski lifts, chocolate chip cookies, red wine, a good book, and exploring the world with my family. I also enjoy teaching and sharing, and seek out opportunities to do both in my hometown of Austin as a guest lecturer at UT, and my adopted home of Denver via mentorship with Techstars Boulder.
