INK: Tech Talk
Nearly a year ago, I graduated from The University of Texas knowing I wanted to pursue a career in public relations. What I didn’t know was that I would fall in love with the tech industry.
Working at a public relations agency that specializes in the tech vertical requires INKers at any level to ask questions and learn. The industry isn’t always easy to understand, but, lucky for all of us, we have weekly Tech Talks at INK to develop our skills and teach us how to integrate into the space.
Every Monday morning, the INK team sits down together and discusses important, trending topics in the tech industry. These discussions vary in subjects ranging from new applications that allow us to work more effectively and efficiently, to discussing the latest innovations in IT security.
We’re PR pros who don’t know everything about the tech industry, but we sure as hell are trying. These chats help us to serve our clients in the best way possible, by learning the ins-and-outs of their industry, products, and services. Whether we’re representing a new technology or helping to establish a first mover, we’re always motivated to learn. We consider ourselves to be our clients’ number one cheerleader – and that means we want to know everything and anything about the work they do and the industry they want to conquer.
If you’re trying to take your agency to the next level, implementing a Tech Talk or continuing education session will go far. I asked a few INKers around the office for feedback on Tech Talks, and it turns out I wasn’t the only one raving about it.
We have a group of very smart, talented people who have different strengths. Tech Talks are a great way for us to share our knowledge with each other and help each other grow.
At INK’s Tech Talks, we’re getting helpful information that I can utilize in my daily work.
Tech Talks tie directly to one of our core values – Enlightenment. Our clients hire us to provide them with strategic counsel on their PR and communications programs, and we can’t do that if we don’t understand the industry in which they play and the technology they sell. Tech Talks are just one way we keep our finger on the pulse of what’s happening in tech, which is a must in my book.
At previous jobs, we were encouraged to work on certain skills to achieve company goals. INK’s Tech Talks are not only about improving how we perform at INK but it focuses on helping us reach our personal goals and ensure we are happy both at work and with life in general – they are so well rounded and positive and the enthusiasm is contagious.
The level of commitment and consistency our leadership team has in developing staff is really special. I think it distinguishes INK as an example of dedication to learning and bettering ourselves to better our company.
I look forward to our tech talks each week because I know I’m most likely in for a learning experience and exposure to something new. Tech talks, and the INK U program as a whole, is largely about finding innovative and efficient ways to do our jobs better. I appreciate that continued education isn’t something INK just talks about doing in the abstract, but something the company practices each and every week.
Keep learning and good things will happen.
