  • INK Team

As Peter Shankman writes in his recent (and absolutely inspiring) recount of the completion of his first IronMan triathlon, “If you always say those things (on people always saying they want to do an IronMan) in abstract terms, it’s really easy to keep them just as that – abstract. And abstract is easy, because abstract is safe.” True that, Peter. I’ll never forget the shivers it sent up my spine the first time I said out loud, “I’m running my first marathon.” It’s real and it makes you accountable. That’s why I can relate as I watch our own Allison Glass and Jennifer Lopez train for their first ever marathon. I see that same panic stricken, “the devil made me say that” look run through their eyes when they talk about running 26.2 on Feb. 20 in the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon.

In the vein, of putting your money where your mouth is, I want to say out loud the INK running team aims to raise $2,500 for Blue Dog Rescue. To reach our goal, we’d be forever appreciative of your support. To help us out, please visit www.bluedogrescue.com and donate any amount you wish under any of our team members’ names (Allison Glass in the full and Kari Hernandez, Helen Rodriguez, Blair Poloskey and yours truly in the half).

Jennifer Lopez will be running to raise money for the LIVESTRONG Foundation on behalf of Dani Faulk. Donations can be made in Jennifer’s name at: http://runaustin.livestrong.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=429733&supid=307920240

So we all have our higher causes which certainly do provide inspiration for the journey but there is nothing like a little public accountability. Stay tuned. We’ll keep you posted of our progress.
