Haters Gonna Hate
Perhaps you live under a rock, or perhaps you just don’t care to watch any of the videos of your friends and colleagues, but people are dumping ice water on their heads in support of finding a cure for ALS. Starr, Kari and I just got challenged and we answered. Our video is accompanied by a donation. Most of them are.
There is, of course, now pushback springing up all over the interwebs to this awesome campaign. The ALS Association has received a huge spike in donations and people who had no knowledge of ALS have now heard of the disease and have likely gone to Google and, hopefully, come away more educated than they previously were. But that isn’t enough for the many grumpy cats on social media. It is now very in vogue to point out how dumping ice water on your head is stupid, has nothing to do with ALS, and isn’t really helping anyone.
Hush, kids. It is helping. Could people do more? Always. Could people do less? Most assuredly – so let’s not knock ‘em for doing something. Is it the way you want them to raise funds for this cause? Or any cause? Nope, doesn’t seem like it is. But it turns out everyone is different, and everyone is motivated by something different. I would imagine Mr. Pete Frates (who started this amazing viral campaign) thinks whatever the reason people are sharing, giving, and talking is just fine and dandy.
So keep on keeping on, ice bucket folks. Don’t let the haters get you down.
