It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas…

The holiday season is upon us and while this time of year brings with it so many wonderful things, it also fills me with dread. My uneasiness starts early November, as holiday ads start to creep into my subconscious and I find myself humming “Hallelujah” while I brush my teeth. My anxiety increases as Thanksgiving approaches and I realize every corner store and coffee shop has already switched to the same jingly jangly piped-in Muzak. This foreboding steadily builds until it finally – inevitably – happens: I hear my first “All I Want for Christmas is You” of the season.

No disrespect to Mariah – girl has sold over 200 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling artists of all time – but this song is garbage. It has haunted me for nearly 20 years. Ok, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but “All I Want for Christmas is You” is definitely my least favorite holiday song. Maybe because it’s so overplayed, maybe because it’s so dang catchy, or maybe because I really do care about presents underneath the Christmas tree. Whatever it is, I simply cannot stand that song.

Does this make me a curmudgeon? I don’t think so. I love the holidays! I really do, but if dreading the onslaught of bad holiday music makes me a Scrooge, at least I’m not alone. I took a poll of the INK offices and everyone has that. one. song. that puts them over the edge this time of year. So I’ve compiled them all into one convenient playlist for your listening (dis)pleasure.
