5 Things to get Excited About Now That it’s Fall in Austin
Saturdays in the Fall are for one thing, and one thing only: football. There is simply nothing better than tailgating and going to see the Texas Longhorns – just ask the 100,000 fans that flock to Austin for home games. While Austin is Longhorn Country (and more than a few INKers bleed orange), INK does not discriminate. Amongst our crew, we have proud supporters of the Rice Owls, Miami Hurricanes, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Kansas Jayhawks, Azusa Pacific Cougars, and THE NATIONAL CHAMPION Ohio State Buckeyes.*
Music, art, wine, food… if you have an interest, Austin has a festival for you. Some of our favorites include FunFunFunFest, the Pecan Street Festival, the Austin Film Festival, and the East Austin Studio Tours. And, of course, you can’t forget Austin’s legendary ACL Music Festival that now spans two weekends every Fall.
Austin is a town obsessed with patios. We have restaurant patios, bar patios, rooftop patios, and even hill-top-four-story-high-patios. While we do our best to make use of these outdoor havens year round with misters and fans, they are often left half empty during the peak of summer heat. At the first signs of Fall, however, Austinites flock to their favorite patio in mass. INKers are partial to the Grove Wine Bar (pictured above), which is conveniently located just down the street from our office and serves some of the best salads in town – directly under a Big Ass Fan.
I know I already said football, but it’s worth repeating. Besides, college and professional football are not the same thing. Austin doesn’t have a professional team, but what we lack in local allegiance we make up for in scattered fandom. Sure, you see a lot of Cowboy and Texans fans in these parts, but Austin is a beautiful melting pot of national transplants, so you are bound to find a diehard fan who will take part in some good ol’ fashioned trash talking no matter what game is on.
And, of course, the one thing that makes all of the above possible – cooler weather. Say goodbye to triple digit temps and say hello to cloudier days, cooler breezes, boots, pumpkin tamales, persimmon season, red wine, and all the other things that makes Fall in Austin oh so nice.
*All INKers are required to use this full moniker when making any reference to The Ohio State football team, or risk physical punishment from Buckeye Alum Kim Mackley.
